Dunbar Municipal Authority hires operator for treatment plant
DUNBAR TWP. – The Dunbar Municipal Authority hired a plant operator on Monday, at the conclusion of a 90-minute executive session. H&H Water Controls of Carmichaels was hired at $1,800 per month to run the Adelaide treatment plant. Board chairman John Malone said the company will also supply monthly sampling and testing services, in addition to providing its own liability insurance.
Other companies that applied for the job included North Fayette County Municipal Authority (NFCMA) at $2,300 per month. Vice chairman Dwaine Gordon said NFCMA’s price, however, didn’t include testing services.
“I’m going to guess that the testing service would have cost us another $300 to $500 a month on top of the $2,300,” said Gordon.
Another new company that is a consortium of NFCMA employees agreed to provide the services for $1,700. Richard Widmer, vice president of Widmer Engineering Inc. of Connellsville, said that they were also unable to provide testing services.
“This is a year-long contract, so if these guys really want to do this for us, they will have the chance in a year when H&H Water Controls contract expires,” said Widmer.
“I know these guys, and I don’t want to see them get into something that may be a bit over their heads. It’s not clear what they would have to pay for testing.”
Gary Pennington, who holds a position with the Connellsville Municipal Authority, according to Gordon, submitted the fourth and last contract.
Pennington said he could provide plant operation services for $1,600. However, his contract also excluded testing services.
In other unrelated matters, the board agreed to continue with the same officers in 2003.
Malone remains as chairman; Gordon as vice chairman; Ron Grimm as secretary; and Lou Falton as treasurer.
The board also reappointed Widmer as engineer and Connellsville attorney Donald McCue as solicitor.
The board additionally agreed to continue using National City Bank for the general fund and PNC Bank for project accounts.
Malone abstained from voting on that matter, since he is an employee of PNC.
