Masontown maps plans for Fourth of July celebration

MASONTOWN – It’ll be an all-day event in Masontown on Independence Day, as the borough hosts a Fourth of July celebration at the German-Masontown Park from 10 a.m. until a fireworks display sprinkles the Fayette County sky at dusk. Event organizer Frank McLaughlin hopes that families will enjoy the wide assortment of bands – River City Quartet, Fast Eddie and Face in the Crowd are scheduled to perform – as well as a petting zoo and pony rides during the afternoon leading up to main event.

Last year, about 2,000 people watched the 40-minute fireworks display at the park, according to McLaughlin.

Other activities this year include a disc jockey, who will play music all day, and all sorts of food to whet the appetite of any family member.

For the children, a special event is planned.

“Rotary is sponsoring a race for the kids this year,” McLaughlin said. “There will be an award for the winner, as well.”

McLaughlin hopes that people will come early and stay throughout the day during the festivities. With additional activities scheduled during the day, he added, more people should stay at the park up to the fireworks.

There is no admission fee for the event, which begins at 10 a.m.
