Supervisors guarantee loan for Perry Township Municipal Authority project
PERRY TWP. – During a brief session Tuesday, the township supervisors adopted an ordinance to guarantee the debt of the Perry Township Municipal Authority for a $200,000 loan to design a sewer system for the Whitsett, Wickhaven and Banning areas. The supervisors agreed to guarantee the interest on the loan, and Supervisor A.J. Boni said the guarantee will be at no cost to the taxpayers. He said the authority is responsible for repaying the loan.
According to township solicitor Mike Macko, the authority has worked on the sewer project about a year, and no total cost estimates are available. He said that while there is no definite timetable, residents can expect construction to begin in 2004 and finish in 2005.
The supervisors also voted to apply for a state Department of Environmental Protection grant for the township’s recycling program. The $25,652 grant would provide the township with anytime recycling service at the municipal building and would change the burning ordinance to include recyclables as non-burnable items. Boni said the program would be an improvement over the current recycling system in the township, in which residents bring recyclables to the municipal building just once a month.
The supervisors also conducted the following business:
– Awarded a $36,645.40 contract to A.C. Moyer for road construction on Greenfield and Barney roads.
– Announced that the township municipal building will host a musical theater camp Aug. 4 to 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children 5 to 17 years old.
– Reminded area residents that Perryopolis Community Days will be held Aug. 10 in Sampey Park, with a dedication of the new wheel on George Washington’s Grist Mill.
