Troopers plan new traffic programs
Local motorists might get stopped for traffic violations when they least expect it in the coming months as the state police announced they will be implementing new traffic enforcement programs to reduce accidents in the district. According to the police, four traffic enforcement programs will run at random times and locations along Route 40 and Route 119 North for the remainder of 2003 and beginning immediately to help curtail traffic accidents in Henry Clay, Wharton, North Union, South Union, Menallen, Bullskin, Connellsville and Dunbar townships.
The state police at Uniotown said they will use S.T.E.A.D., a program that focuses on motorists who drive while under the influence of alcohol and S.P.A.R.E., which is an aerial speed enforcement program. In addition, police said they will implement Yellow Jacket, a program that uses Pennsylvania Department of Transportation equipment as radar vehicles and a program called Centipede and Tag’d, which focuses on aggressive drivers.
