James L. Torma
James L. Torma, 85, of Morgantown, W.Va., and formerly of Greensboro, Pa., and Carmichaels, Pa., died at 3:45 p.m., on Monday, July 14, 2003, at Sundale Nursing Home, Morgantown. He was born Nov. 5, 1917, in Illinois, a son of the late James Louis and Mary Szabo Torma.
Mr. Torma resided at Greensboro, most of his married life and resided at Carmichaels from 1989, until moving to Morgantown, in 1997. He was an avid fisherman and worked for 45 years at the Duquesne Light Warwick Mine until his retirement. Mr. Torma was a member of Duquesne Light U.M.W.A. Local 6310.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth M. Hardy Torma, who died on Sept. 10, 1997; and a sister, Anna Swearingen.
Surviving are a son, James D. Torma and his wife, Susan of Virginia Beach, Va.; three daughters, Betsy Kirkpatrick of Canonsburg, Pa., Barbara Jean Griffin and her husband, Frank of Morgantown, W.Va., and Betty J. Zajac of Uniontown, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Tammy Mahramas, Thomas Matthew Zajac, Kristopher Ryan Zajac, Douglas Alan Zajac, Nathanial James McManis, Amanda Griffin and Christopher Griffin; a sister, Margaret Kurilko of Bobtown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in the YOSKOVICH FUNERAL HOME, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine St., (Route 88), Carmichaels, Pa., where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 17, 2003, with Pastor Seth Broadhurst officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the W.V.U.
