In brief
Street to close Brownsville Township officials announced that Brown Street, between Mill Road and Pike Mine, will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, July 28, and continuing through Friday, Aug. 1, for a water-line-replacement project. The work should be completed in this time frame, weather permitting, officials said.
Campaign to begin
Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Laurel Region will kick off its sixth annual Chain of Success campaign in August.
Local businesses will sell Chain of Success links for $1. Some of the links will have coupons with valuable discounts. All the proceeds stay in the Fayette/Westmoreland area. For more information, call 724-837-6198.
Event planned
The California Area Optimist Club, in association with Western Southern Financial Group, the California Police Department and the California Public Library, will provide free fingerprinting and ID photos to area youth and their parents Thursday in the California Public Library, located on First and Wood streets in California.
This free service will be conducted from 8 to 9 p.m. All children in the area, ages 3 to 14, are encouraged to attend with their parents.
Fingerprinting and photo IDs are valuable to parents in the event that children are reported missing. They also may serve parents in selected legal matters related to the welfare of the child.
No advance registration is required, and further information may be obtained by calling the library at 724-938-2907.
