Walter A. Gamon
Walter A. Gamon, 80, of Cardale, Pa., passed away Monday, July 21, 2003, in Brownsville General Hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Tower Hill No. 2, Pa., a son of the late John Gamon Sr., and Rosalia Krol Gamon.
Walter was a member of the Church of the Madonna of Cardale, retired after 42 years from U.S. Steel’s Robena Mine, a member of UMWA local 6321, a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, a life member of Uniontown VFW Post 47, and the Republic American Legion Post 590.
Walter was an avid bowler at Fairbank Bowling Alley, Fairbank, Pa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the following sisters and brothers, Mary Pavlus, Ann Dret and Stanley, Joe, John, Frank, Edward, Albert, Paul and Sylvester Gamon.
Surviving are his wife, Veronica Stanislaw Gamon; daughters, Gloria Fraley and husband, Richard of Chesterland, Ohio, and Valerie Pelehac and husband, Mark of Republic, Pa.; grandchildren, Traci Lyle of Ohio, Teri Fraley of New Jersey, Jeffrey Pelehac, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado, and Gina Pelehac and Angela Pelehac, both of Republic, Pa.; and a brother, Anthony Gamon of Ohio.
Friends will be received in the ROBERT T. KISH FUNERAL HOME INC., Legion Street, Republic, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., and Friday until 9:30 a.m., when a prayer service will be held. A Funeral Mass follows at 10 a.m., in the Church of the Madonna, with the Rev. Fr. Stephen Bugay as celebrant. Interment will be in Saint Mary Cemetery, Cardale, Pa., where military rites will be accorded by Uniontown VFW Post 47. A Parish Wake Service will be held on Thursday at 8 p.m.
