Jefferson E. Rhodes
Jefferson “Jeff” Ewing Rhodes, 80, of Point Marion, Pa., died suddenly on Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at his home. He was born April 20, 1923, in Old Frame, Pa., a son of Phillip Rhodes and Ellie Bell (Brady) Rhodes.
His parents, wife, Elsie Mae Rhodes, and many brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Rhodes was a heavy equipment operator for many local surface mining companies over the years, and had served his country during World War II with the United States Army. In the 1950’s he was a member of the New Geneva Softball team, Masontown League, and later coached softball for many years. He loved the peace and serenity of living in a country setting, where he could garden and work in the yard. His kindness and warm nature will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving are a son, Christopher Rhodes of Waukesha, Wis.; three grandchildren, Bernadette Weiss and husband, Justin of Waukesha, Wis., Christopher Rhodes Jr., and wife, Heidi of West Allis, Wis., and Gregory Rhodes of Waukesha, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Austin and Tressa Weiss and Noah Rhodes; a sister, Martha Wilke of Charlotte, N.C.; a very special nephew, Vernon Eberhart; a very special niece, Carol Rock; and many other dear nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., 515 North Main St., Masontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday, June 7, 2003, until 10 a.m., when a blessing service will be held with Father James F. Bump officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, New Geneva, Pa. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to All Saints School Fund, 101 South Washington St., Masontown, Pa.
