Sophia C. Karpency
Sophia C. Karpency, 96, a resident of the Cloverdale Personal Care Home, Masontown, and formerly of Footedale, Pa., passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2003, in Masontown. She was born Dec. 20, 1906, in Fairchance, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kossan) Kos Boofer.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters, Joseph and John Boofer, Elizabeth Brensy, Mary Simko and Susan Lockhart.
She was a member of the St. Procopius Roman Catholic Church of New Salem, and a graduate of the former Fairchance High School, and the Uniontown School of Nursing. Sophia served as a registered nurse at the Uniontown Hospital until her retirement.
She is survived by a son, J. Daniel Karpency and his wife, Evelyn of Garfield Heights, Ohio; a daughter, Mary Rita Smith and her husband, Thomas of Masontown; and two grandsons, Michael and John Smith of Masontown.
Friends will be received in the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, New Salem, today from 3 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, June 7, 2003, at 9:30 a.m., in the St. Procopius R.C. Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Fr. James L. Popochock as celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Parish Wake Service will be held, in the funeral home, at 8:30 p.m., today.
