Uniontown woman charged with endangerment
A Uniontown woman was arrested for endangering the welfare of her three children after she allegedly started a fire on her porch roof by igniting her boyfriend’s clothes and throwing them out the window early Friday. City police charged Nikki McCargo, 23, of 33 Millview St., with endangering the welfare of children and criminal mischief following the 3:20 a.m. incident. She was arraigned by duty District Justice Mike Defino Jr. and committed to the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $10,000 cash bond.
According to an affidavit filed by Det. Phillip Jones, McCargo said she got angry with her boyfriend, lit his clothes on fire and threw them on the porch roof. Interior curtains caught fire when she tossed the various article of clothing from the second-story window, police said.
Officers Andre Mason, David Rutter and Jones were dispatched to the home and saw the fire burning on the roof with heavy smoke in the upstairs bedroom.
After ensuring the safety of McCargo and her children, 3-year-old Nicco Duncan, 2-year-old Kail McCargo and 2-month-old Keonte McCargo, the officers went upstairs and noticed that the curtains were also on fire, Jones said.
They used a bedrail to knock the clothes off the roof and then extinguished the roof. No injuries were reported.
A preliminary hearing is pending before District Justice Mark Blair.
