James M. Monaghan

James M. Monaghan, 82, of Rocks Works, Uniontown, Pa., passed away Friday, February 28, 2003 in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born February 9, 1921 in Nemacolin, Pa., son of Edward Monaghan and Anna Blanc Monaghan.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church in Republic where he served as an Usher.

“Jim” was a retired Mine Foreman from United States Steel Corporation’s Robena Mine with a total of 42 years underground. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America District 2 Local 6321.

He was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United States Army in China, Burma and India and a member of General George C. Marshall Post No. 103 AMVETS in Hopwood, V. F. W. Post No. 47 in Uniontown, American Legion Post No. 51, Uniontown.

His daughter, Lori Bulla, a sister, Irene Smith, two brothers, Edward “Teddy” Monaghan and John Monaghan, and parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Croftcheck Monaghan; three sons and a daughter: James Monaghan and his wife, Carol, of Manchester, Washington, Richard Monaghan and his wife, Christine, of Sheffield, Ohio, Gary Monaghan and his wife, Louise, of Uniontown, Pa., and Jane Yantko and her husband, Vincent, of Belle Vernon, Pa.; 14 grandchildren: Matt Monaghan and James Monaghan, Brian, Kyle and Conor Monaghan, Colin, Michol, Elise and Sean Monaghan, Samantha, Casey, Jimmy and Sophia Yantko, and Kristie Bulla; a son-in-law, Paul Bulla of Uniontown, Pa.; a sister and four brothers: Elizabeth Alexander of Richland, Virginia, Robert Monaghan of Uniontown, Pa., William Monaghan of Akron, Ohio, Francis Monaghan of Wickliffe, Ohio, and Patrick J. Monaghan of Uniontown.

Friends were received in the DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, Pa., Saturday evening after 7 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received today, March 3, until 9:30 a.m. when brief prayers will be said in the Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial follows at 10 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Republic, with his Pastor, Rev. Fr. Stephen Bugay, as Celebrant.

Interment will follow in Mount Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, where Military Honors will be conducted by AMVETS Post 103.
