Lester Clayton Martin

Lester Clayton Martin, 84, of Flatwoods, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, march 1, 2003 from his home following a six-month battle with asbestos-related cancer. Born July 13, 1918, in Star Junction, Fayette County, Pa., he was the son of Gilbert E. Martin and Ella L. Eichler Martin.

He graduated from the former Perry High School with the Class of 1936 and was a Veteran of World War II who served with the United States Navy.

Mr. Martin was a Farmer in the Perry Township area all of his life and had retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation’s as a Pipe Fitter.

He was Superintendent of Mount Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis, Pa., and longtime Grave Digger for both Mount Auburn and Little Redstone cemeteries both in Fayette City.

Mr. Martin was an attendee at The Church of The Open Door, Connellsville, Pa., and member of Flatwoods Baptist Church

He was deeply committee to the work of Christian Missions and had visited ministries in Israel, Canada and the Philippines.

Mr. Martin was a 50-year participant in the Faith Bible Conference from its founding in 1952 through the present.

On December 10, 1941 he was married to Nana Mae Cooper. She died July 19, 1992. Also deceased are one grandson, two brothers, Leroy Martin and Herman Martin, and his parents.

Surviving are his six beloved children: Janice Martin at home, Bruce Martin and wife, Vera, of Myersdale, Pa., Roger Martin and wife, Darlene, of Tennessee, Daniel Martin of Perryopolis, Pa., Dr. Carl T. Martin and wife, Beth, of McDonald, Pa., and Lester Martin II and wife, Lana, of Star Junction, Pa.; two sisters: Dorothy Knepshield of Perryopolis, Pa., and Gertrude Schroyer of Winter Haven, Florida; 17 Grandchildren and one Great Grandchild.

Friends will be received in the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOMES INC., 334 Main Street, Fayette City, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Additional viewing will take place on Wednesday, March 5, in Flatwoods Baptist Church, Vanderbilt R.D.1, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., the hour of Services with the Rev. Daniel Seibert, Pastor of Flatwoods Baptist Church, Dr. Wade Kuhlewind, Pastor of The Church of The Open Door, and Dr. Carl T. Martin, Pastor of Independent Bible Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in Mount Washington Cemetery, Perryopolis, Pa.
