Authority waits for funding news

REDSTONE TWP. – Since the applications to PENNVEST have all been submitted, the Colonial Joint Sewage authority is waiting to see if their project of new lines and a plant will be approved. “At the end of the month, we should have some word on that, ” said Marie Stratakis Hartman of Widmer Engineering. “So far, the feedback I’ve gotten has been positive so, hopefully, we’ll see something favorable. As far as the part two submission, I haven’t gotten any comments yet, which I’m sure is a good sign.”

While the authority is waiting for approval from PENNVEST, Solicitor Jack Purcell said he has been searching properties to find out which ones will be needed for right-of-ways.

“I have a list of some of the properties we’ve searched and some of the ones we’re working on right now,” Purcell said. “These are the people you’ll need right-of ways from.”

Secretary Larry William made a suggestion for each board member to work with the property owners.

“We could let board members pick names of those they think they could handle and they can work with them as we progress,” Williams said.

Purcell advised the authority to start working on obtaining the right-of-ways as soon as possible.

“I’m going to continue to work on them because we can’t wait until April to get them done,” said Purcell, adding that they must all be done before the PENNVEST closing.

Purcell also reported that he plans to attend the conference of the Pennsylvania Municipal Authority Association.

“The cost is about $85 and it is a good thing for anyone who wants to learn about authorities to attend. I plan to be there for most of the day.”

The conference will be held on April 1 at Nemacolin Woodlands.
