Firefighters battle South Union blaze
Volunteer firefighters from South Union Township and Hopwood battled a mobile home fire for about an hour in frigid temperatures Monday morning in the Huggins Mobile Home Park. According to neighbors, the home at 18 Ashley St. belonged to Kevin and Connie Bright. Neighbors said the Brights left their mobile home only minutes before it caught fire.
No injuries were reported.
Woody Hanan, who lives at 5 Ashley St., said he left work early Monday because he wasn’t feeling well and when he got home he saw flames coming out of one of the Brights’ windows.
“The windows just started to blow out so I thought that I better get the neighbors out because they are elderly,” Hanan said. “I scooted them and their dog down the street and waited until their son came to pick them up.”
Harold Arnold, who lives at 5 Ashley St., said there have been at least five fires in the mobile home park in the last 18 months.
“I don’t know what caused them, but most of them have happened during the day,” said Arnold.
There are 47 mobile homes in the mobile home park, according to Arnold.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Fayette 911 said firefighters were dispatched at 10:59 a.m. and cleared the scene at about 11:50 a.m.
