Main waives right to hearing
A Uniontown man waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday before Uniontown District Justice Mark Blair. City police charged Oscar Stokes, 21, of 414 Morgantown St. with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance.
Uniontown police detective Phillip W. Jones said Stokes was arrested after police observed him while on routine patrol on Braddock Avenue.
Jones said police observed Stokes make a rapid turn onto Claredon Avenue, through an alley and caught up to him and stopped him on Lebanon Avenue.
Jones said as police approached Stokes’ vehicle Stokes opened the driver-side door and immediately became belligerent.
“He (Stokes) would not look police in the eyes,” said Jones. “When he was ordered out of the vehicle, he appeared very nervous and continued to be belligerent.”
Jones said when police patted Stokes down they allegedly found about 5 grams of crack cocaine, 5 grams of base cocaine and a small baggie of marijuana on him.
Meanwhile, Michael Gerald Dickison, 25, of Penn Street, Masontown, was sent back to jail to wait for a public defender to be assigned to his case. His hearing before Blair was scheduled to be held Monday.
Dickison, who was arrested at the rear entrance to Lafayette School April 26, 1998, for simple possession and possession with the intent to use drug paraphernalia, was a fugitive from justice until recently.
State police trooper Robert A. Mertz, in his criminal complaint filed at Blair’s office said that Dickison was caught with 3.1 grams of marijuana after police were called to the Lafayette school to check out a pit-bull fight.
“Upon arrival, no fight was observed,” said Mertz. “The only adult nearby was Dickison, who was playing cards at the rear entrance of the school with four children.”
Mertz said when he searched Dickison he found a plastic baggie with what appeared to be marijuana.
“The contents of the baggie were analyzed by the Greensburg Regional Laboratory and the lab confirmed that the baggie contained marijuana,” said Mertz.
