The Brownsville Rotary named Jill McClelland as student of the month for February. The daughter of Glenn and Susan McClelland of Brownsville, she is an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of California. McClelland has been a Sunday school teacher, a worship assistant and has prepared meals for a Pittsburgh soup kitchen. She has participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, coordinated a March of Dimes fund drive and collected eyeglasses for “Vision for Haiti.”
She has a 4.0 grade-point average, is co-captain of her cross-country team and won the Gatorade “Willingness to Win” award and KDKA’s “Extra Effort Award.” She is the president of the Spanish Honor Society, chairman of the senior T-shirt and baccalaureate committees, a member of senior cabinet, and a participant in the Gateway Program and math competition team for her school. Her classmates voted her the “Most Musically Inclined” from her graduating class.
McClelland has worked for the Brownsville Dairy Queen since she was 16 and plans to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania, majoring in education of the hearing impaired, with a concentration in mathematics.
