State police probe man’s death
State police said the body of an unidentified 23-year-old black male was discovered in a vehicle in the woods early Tuesday morning off Route 119 in North Union Township. State police at Uniontown said when the man was discovered police learned that he had an “apparent self inflicted gun shot wound.”
Investigating officer Trooper Scott Krofcheck said the man was traveling north on Route 119 just prior to the Connellsville Street Exit when his vehicle ran off the road, crossed both southbound lanes, and ended up in the woods.
Krofcheck said once the man was found police discovered the gunshot wound.
Fayette County Coroner Dr. Phillip Reilly said the name of the man would not be released pending notification of the man’s family. Reilly additionally said that an autopsy would be performed on the man in Pittsburgh to determine the cause of death.
“We’re not sure at this point if this was a suicide or a homicide,” said the coroner. “The autopsy will tell us what we need to know to make a ruling.”
Reilly said a toxicology test would also be done on the man.
