Catholic Charities to honor Eberly
Catholic Charities of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg will honor Robert E. Eberly of Uniontown for philanthropy at its fifth annual Communities of Salt and Light Award dinner on Thursday, April 10. Eberly, president of The Eberly Foundation, will receive the award for philanthropy.
His charitable contributions include providing funding for local organizations such as the YMCA, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Salvation Army and the Boy Scouts of America, as well as local hospitals, churches, colleges, schools and other charities.
Eberly and his wife, Elouise, recently donated funds for an MRI Center at The Uniontown Hospital. They continue to assist in bringing and retaining business in Fayette County.
The Eberlys have contributed more than $1.5 million to Fay-Penn Economic Development Council.
Catholic Charities is also honoring Rita M. Keegan of Sutersville for the humanitarianism award. Stewardship has been a way of life for the parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Sutersville. Keegan has worked for 52 years as a catechetical leader at her parish and has structured her life around dedicated service in the church and the community.
ParentWISE Inc. is also being honored as the recipient of the first-ever award for outstanding human service organization. Its purpose is the preservation of families, inclusivity, pursuit of peace and protection of lives. The agency was formerly known as Parents Anonymous of Westmoreland County.
Judy Modecki, director of coordinated services and development for Catholic Charities, said funds raised from the dinner will help families in the diocese by providing direct financial support for such things as heat, shelter and food.
Catholic Charities’ mission is to serve the human needs of individuals and families, regardless of religious affiliation, and to provide leadership in building collaborative efforts with parishes and communities in addressing those needs.
The agency helps those who need it in Fayette, Armstrong, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.
The dinner will begin with a 6 p.m. reception and silent and Chinese auction at the Greensburg Country Club.
Dinner will follow at 7 p.m. Tickets are $100.
