Groundbreaking planned for fire department truck house
CLARKSVILLE – At a groundbreaking ceremony Saturday at 10 a.m., the borough’s volunteer fire department will publicize its plans to build a truck house. Mayor Sam Benyi, who also serves as second assistant fire chief, said the new truck house will be built on property that the department already owns.
“We tore down a storage garage and are building a truck house in its place,” said Benyi, adding that the fire hall will still be used for weddings and social events.
Benyi said the truck house will allow the firefighters to pull their trucks right out onto Main Street, saving time in the event of an emergency.
“In the fire hall, where the trucks are kept now, we have to pull out onto an alley and go up another alley before we hit Main Street,” he said.
The truck house will hold up to six fire trucks. Construction will begin Monday and will cost $300,000. Benyi said the fire department raised the money through weekly bingos.
