Mount Rose Baptist to observe Wiley’s anniversary
On Sunday, the Mount Rose Baptist Church in Uniontown will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its pastor, the Rev. Ludwell D. Wiley. Ordained in 1964 for the Gospel ministry, Rev. Wiley was pastor of the Union Baptist Church in Monessen for five years and the Second Baptist Church in Latrobe for eight years before becoming the eighth pastor to serve at Mount Rose. He and the late Dorothy Wiley, natives of Pittsburgh, came to Mount Rose in 1978.
In preparation for the ministry, he attended the American Baptist Theological Seminary at Nashville, Tenn.
He is a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute and holds a bachelor degree as well as an honorary doctor degree of divinity from the Inter Baptist Theological Center in Houston, Texas.
In addition to addressing the spiritual needs of Mount Rose, Rev. Wiley has been actively involved in the Youghiogheny Western Baptist Association in the capacities of president and secretary of the ministers conference, and regional vice president of the men’s division of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention.
He served as moderator of the Youghiogheny Western Baptist Association from 1985-89. Rev. Wiley is also a teacher for the Congress of Christian Education.
In 1977, Rev. Wiley married Loretta Early Greer. The couple resides in Fairchance.
During Sunday’s observance, the congregation will welcome the Rev. David Lee of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Whitsett to the 10:45 a.m. service.
Afterwards, the congregation will pay tribute with a dinner in the church dining room.
At the 4 p.m. service, the congregation welcomes the Rev. Robert Crable of Mount Calvary Baptist Church as guest preacher.
