Robert R. Drews Sr.
Robert R. Drews Sr. “Popeye”, 80, of Brownfield, Pa., died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 in Cherry Tree Nursing Center, Uniontown. He was born September 5, 1922 in Brownfield, Pa., son of Fred A. Drews and Eva Blosky Drews.
Robert served his country during World War II as a First Sergeant, United States Army, 97th Infantry Division in the Asiatic-Pacific and the European theatres.
He was a Coal Miner for 43 years retiring in 1984 from United States Steel Corporation’s Maple Creek Mine. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1248.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Mary E. DiNunnio Drews, son, Robert R. Drews Jr., brother, Wallace J. Drews, and infant sister, Sylvia Jean Drews.
Surviving are three grandsons; two brothers: James Drews and wife June, Hopwood, Pa., and Donald Drews, Brownfield, Pa.; a sister, Linda Ringer and husband George, La Moyne, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
The Family will receive Friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, March 8, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Rev. Paul N. Frank officiating.
Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Brownfield, where Military Honors will be accorded by General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood.
