Plan approved Franklin township supervisors approved an updated emergency management plan for the township Monday after the emergency management coordinator met with the supervisors two weeks ago to go over the changes to the plan.

The plan is required to be updated every two years and supervisors adopted an ordinance approving the document, which was prepared by coordinator Rick Owens. According to the ordinance, the plan meets federal requirements and those outlined in the Greene County Emergency Operations Guidelines.

Supervisors chairman T. Reed Kiger gave an update on the process of selecting a project that will be paid for with 2003 Community Development Block Grant funds. The township is slated to receive $169,000 and an 11,000-foot water line extension along Route 218 south from White Barn Road to Brandt Hill has been targeted.

Kiger said most of the homeowners along that stretch of road qualify under the requirement that 51 percent of the population affected by the work be considered low or moderate income by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Supervisors will decide on their project at the March 24 meeting. The 2002 CDBG funds are being allocated for three small sewer line extensions on Route 19 south and Porter Street Extension, Kiger said.
