THE FAYETTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S TACTICAL SEARCH & RESCUE TEAM, under the direction of Sheriff Gary Brownfield Sr., is asking members of the Fayette County ministerial community to become part of a Spiritual Care Response Team. The Sheriff’s Tactical Search and Rescue Team is a non-profit organization made up of trained volunteers from Fayette County who serve in one of six different units: the ATV unit, K-9 unit, mounted unit, ground unit, drive unit and the Special Fire Police. The team hopes to add a seventh unit: spiritual care.
Officials said, “Spiritual care is an essential component of response and recovery for individuals affected by a traumatic event. A traumatic event could be from a child lost in the woods to a major airline crash in someone’s back yard. In either event, the gentle touch of a loving Heavenly Father is needed to comfort the stressed emotions of all affected and to begin the healing process. Depending on the magnitude of the tragedy of all survivors, family members and emergency workers are in need of this same emotional and spiritual comfort.
“Because of the terrorist threats on our nation, now is a good time to unite and get prepared to be God’s hand extended in the event that tragedy should strike Fayette County.

ALLISON CHRISTIAN CHURCH announces the outreach ministry will have a penny sale on Sunday before the 9 a.m. service. The children will collect the pennies following the children’s moment. ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces Sunday’s casual 9 a.m. service features praise choruses and hymns led by the Rev. James Fogg, accompanied by Jim Hutchinson and Rev. Fogg’s message “Can We Really Trust God?’ The traditional 11 a.m. service includes Rev. Fogg’s message and special music by Asbury Chancel Choir, directed by Bill Dreucci, and Hutchinson. Loving Nursery Care is available for infants and children under 4. Children’s Church is available for all children age 4 and older. A Dog and Spuds Luncheon to benefit Asbury Youth will be held immediately following the 11 a.m. worship service. The Asbury Chancel Choir will rehearse from 12:15 to 1 p.m. in the choir rehearsal room. Those wishing to join the choir are welcome. The Wednesday Lenten Luncheon, sponsored by the Uniontown Area Clergy Association, continues on March 19 with the Rev. Al Thompson of St. Paul’s African Methodist Episcopal Church as speaker. Asbury’s Lenten Mini-Recital Series precedes the luncheon from 11:15 to 11:50 a.m. in the sanctuary with organist Marisa Cazden. A free-will offering will be accepted at the recital.
Terrific Thursday Plus continues March 20 at 5 p.m. with “A Bible Study with Rev. Jim’ for the adults and the Bible Zone lesson and craft and choir for children and dinner served to all. The program concludes at 7 p.m.
BENTLEYVILLE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 812 Main St., announces with 170 members and a seating capacity of 124, weekly attendance is up to 140 at Sunday’s 11 a.m. worship hour with an additional 30 or more at the new Saturday 7 p.m. contemporary, interfaith service. The Rev. Dr. John Garvin, a retired Alaska missionary, is interim pastor. Beginning with a powerful interfaith service on September 11, 2002, the Rev. Dr. John Garvin, a retired Alaska missionary who is interim pastor, reported more than 250 people crowded into First Presbyterian Church. THE BIBLE HOUR BROADCAST will observe its 40th anniversary of broadcasting on radio station WMBS this Sunday. This anniversary will be celebrated with special broadcasts these next two Sundays at 7:06 p.m. on the local station. The first Bible Hour Broadcast was aired March 17, 1963 and has been heard weekly ever since. The broadcast is the oldest program on WMBS.
This coming Sunday at 7:06 p.m., the first Bible Hour Broadcast will be heard as part of the present broadcast. Next Sunday, the second broadcast will be aired as part of that program. These are intended to bring memories of the broadcasts beginnings back in 1963.
These first two broadcasts will then be placed on cassettes and CDs and sent to all who request them at Box 200, Uniontown 15401. The Rev. Edward Pollock is the director and speaker of The Bible Hour Broadcast.
BROWNSVILLE AREA MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION will host community Lenten services on Thursdays at 7 p.m. Schedule includes: March 20, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Brownsville with the Rev. CALIFORNIA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 227 Third St. at Liberty St., announces that on Wednesdays of the Lenten season (March 19, 26, April 2, 9) will be celebrated with a covered dish dinner, beginning at 6 p.m. Meat rolls and beverage will be provided by the church. CHRIST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Uniontown, announces the Leland Class on Sunday is broadcast on WMBS Radio at 10:10 a.m. Worship for the second Sunday of Lent is at 10:45 a.m. in the Leland Class downstairs. This is the last Sunday for worship in the basement. The Rev. Kenneth E. Word of Life Germany has found it is still a well-loved avenue in many countries of the world for getting out the message of the Gospel. For this reason, Bob Parschauer Jr., director of Word of Life Austria, will host the German Brass Ensemble on their 15th tour of North America. This international ensemble (from Germany, Austria and the USA) will be accompanied by a full orchestra background. Their music is contemporary but conservative. The program includes a variety of brass sounds from old Bavaria to a variation of German-style spirituals to contemporary praise songs as well as old hymns.
