Car hits, kills woman walking on Route 21
GERMAN TWP. – An Edenborn woman died at Uniontown Hospital on Friday night after she was struck by a car as she walked on Route 21. Thirty-eight-year-old Tammie Shultz was pronounced dead from blunt-force trauma to the head and face at 9:18 p.m., about a half-hour after the accident occurred, said Fayette County Coroner Dr. Phillip Reilly.
Reilly determined that the dark clothing Shultz wore and the fact that she was walking in the middle of the roadway contributed to the accident.
State police said Robert Murren, 20, of Nemacolin was westbound when his 1991 Chevy truck struck Shultz, who was walking in the westbound lanes, at 8:49 p.m. Friday.
“There is absolutely nothing to indicate criminal activity against the driver,” said the investigating officer, state police trooper John E. Pash. “There were no traffic violations or signs that alcohol was involved [concerning the driver].”
Shultz was clothed in a black jacket and gray pants, and the roadway was without streetlights, police said.
According to Pash, Shultz was walking to meet her boyfriend, who stood on the other side of the street. The incident happened in front of the Locker Room Lounge, from where Shultz apparently had exited.
At the time of the accident, someone from Murren’s vehicle entered the bar to call 911.
Neither Murren nor his three passengers were injured in the accident, according to police.
State police Cpl. James Burger, along with crews from McClellandtown and Edenborn volunteer fire departments, assisted police at the scene.
