Erma C. Smith Hunter, 79, of 2003 Hunter’s Ridge, Brownsville, Pa., and a former resident of Los Angeles, California, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at 12:12 p.m. in Brownsville General Hospital. She was born June 2, 1923 daughter of Walter L. Smith and Allise G. Moten Smith.

Erma was a member of Mount Ararat Baptist Church in Cardale, Pa., where she was honored and bestowed the title “The Mother of The Church” as the oldest member.

Her father, Walter L. Smith, mother, Allise G. Moten Smith, brother, Robert R. Smith, and sister, Valrica Stallsworth Bell, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two brothers: Walter L. Smith of Verona, Pa., and Sylvern J. Stallworth; sisters: Geraldine A. Hughes of Brownsville, Pa., Gloria E. Robinson of Homestead, Pa., Catherine Chick of Los Angeles, California, Marcella E. Pugh and husband, Donald, of Crescent Heights, Pa., Claudette C. Barber and husband, James, of Tallahassee, Florida, Veronica Jade Smith of Washington, D.C., and Carmella T. Thomas of Brownsville, Pa.; Godchild, Toni Ward Parker of San Antonio, Texas; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held in Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Cardale, Pa., today from 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday, March 17, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Rev. Richard Calloway officiating.

Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery, Belle Vernon, Pa.

Arrangements are under direction of the LAW FUNERAL HOME, 135 Angle Street, Brownsville, PA 15417.
