Matthew E. Painley

Matthew E. Painley, age 19, of Hopwood, Pa., died suddenly Saturday, March 15, 2003 as a result of a kayaking accident. He was born September 12, 1983 in Uniontown, Pa., son of Ruth Lener Painley of Hopwood and Eugene Painley of Hopwood.

In addition to his parents he is survived by three sisters, Sarah Painley of Indiana, Pa., Amanda Painley and Abigail Painley both at home; and Terry Bubonovich whom he thought of as a father.

He was predeceased by his Maternal grandparents, Isabelle and Smith Lener and his Paternal grandparents, Mary and George Painley.

Matthew was a member of St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church where he served on the Church Council.

His favorite passage was from Isaiah 12:2 “God indeed is my Savior; I am confident and unafraid”.

He was a graduate of Laurel Highlands High School Class of 2002 where he was a member of the Mustangs Varsity football team and the Varsity wrestling team.

This year he was attending Slippery Rock University as a freshman.

Matthew worked as a guide on the Youghiogheny River with Wilderness Voyagers.

He also was doing competitive rock and ice climbing.

Friends will be received in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, Pa., today from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, March 19, until 10 a.m. when a Panachida Service will be held.

Divine Liturgy follows at 10:30 a.m. in St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, East Main Street, Uniontown, with Rev. Fr. Thomas Wesdock as Celebrant.

Parastas Service will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.
