Brownsville Hospital to sponsor Diabetes Care Fare
BROWNSVILLE – Do you or someone you love have diabetes? Are you at risk for diabetes? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you should mark your calendar to attend the Diabetes Care Fair 2003 at Brownsville General Hospital (BGH) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29.
Sponsored by medical professionals and representatives from diabetes care companies, state-of-the-art healthcare products and the latest in diabetic care will be presented.
According to Patty Johnson, R.N., certified diabetes educator, it is important to learn how to take care of diabetes.
“It is very important to control your diabetes so it doesn’t control you,” Johnson said.
Information will be available regarding upcoming Diabetes Self Management Education Classes taught at Brownsville General Hospital (BGH). The American Diabetes Association recognizes the hospital as meeting national standards for diabetes education.
The Diabetes Care Fair 2003 will provide an opportunity for diabetics, their family members and individuals with a family history of diabetes who could beat risk for developing this chronic disease. Take advantage of free vision, foot, dental, blood pressure and body fat screenings performed by doctors and healthcare professionals. Individual assessments will also be conducted for diabetes risk, heart disease and stress.
Attendees can participate in chair aerobics and enjoy cooking demonstrations for which recipes will be provided. Diabetic Support Group members will be on site to discuss their merits of the support network and how you can get started.
BGH’s Diabetes Care Fair is open to the public. Attendees can register to win free gifts, enjoy refreshments and receive a free travel mug and three-day trial membership to the hospital’s Wellness Center.
