March 18, 2003 Uniontown offers programs
The Uniontown Hospital and its home health care agency, Fayette Home Care, will offer the following community education programs in March:
– The Safe Sitter Course offers youth over the age of 11 the opportunity to learn safe babysitting techniques from registered nurses. There are two sessions. Each session is 6.5 hours. The dates will be announced. A $10 fee is charged to cover the cost of educational materials. To register, call 724-430-3333.
– “Look Good … Feel Better” is a free national public service program to help women undergoing cancer treatment learn to cope with the appearance-related effects of treatment and regain a sense of self-confidence and control over their lives. The American Cancer Society and the Fayette Regional Cancer Center will sponsor the program quarterly. For more information, call the American Cancer Society at 1-888-227-5445.
– APPRISE is a State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) for older Pennsylvanians. The Pennsylvania Department of Aging created APPRISE to help older Pennsylvanians understand their health insurance options and make sound decisions about what is best for them. For assistance with Medicare-related health insurance questions, call the Fayette HealthLine for an appointment with an APPRISE counselor at 724-430-3333.
Coupon booklets available
The Uniontown Hospital Auxiliary will sell the 2003 Restaurant Coupon Booklets in the hospital’s Main Lobby from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The 2003 Restaurant Coupon Booklets features discounts at 43 area restaurants and are available for $20 each.
Abuse symposium slated
Somerset County Children and Youth Services learned recently that the Child Abuse Symposium titled “Trauma and Community Violence: Their Effect on Children and Adolescents,” has been approved for continuing education units.
The symposium is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, and will be held at Seven Springs Road in Champion. The registration deadline has been extended to Wednesday and can be made by calling Sharon Hahn at 814-445-1611.
