CONNELLSVILLE – A city teen remains hospitalized in fair condition after a mid-afternoon accident along East Crawford Avenue. Joshua Kostelnik, 13, was delivering newspapers to his customers on Tuesday when he reportedly

left the sidewalk and ran into the path of a vehicle driven by Diana Keita.

Connellsville police Chief Stephen Cooper said Keita, of East Apple Street, was traveling southbound in the 500 block of East Crawford Avenue, near East Murphy Avenue, when the 4:38 p.m. accident took place.

“We have reports from witnesses and the driver that the boy was jogging on the sidewalk and then suddenly left the sidewalk and ran right into the side of (Keita’s) vehicle,” he said.

Kostelnik was thrown into the air and then into the windshield of Keita’s Ford Tempo, said Cooper. Keita told police she was traveling at about 15 mph when the collision took place.

Fayette EMS personnel treated Kostelnik at the scene before he was flown to a Pittsburgh-based hospital.
