Virginia P. Swaney
Virginia P. Swaney, 94, of Smithfield, Pa., died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. She was born July 8, 1908, in Bruceton Mills, W.Va., daughter of the late Phillip Rosenberger and Sophronia Seese Rosenberger.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Paul C. Swaney; a son, Ralph Palmer Swaney; an infant daughter, Winefred Gail Swaney; and sisters and brothers, Mary Nolan, Myrtle Guthrie, Henry Rosenberger, Hugh Rosenberger, Grace Murray and Abasha Savage. She was the last surviving member of her parents’ immediate family.
She was a member of Salem Church of the Brethren, Bruceton Mills, W.Va.
Surviving are two children, Glenn Swaney and his wife, Nancy Sue Swaney of Smithfield, and Eugene Swaney and his wife, Mildred Swaney of Smithfield; a daughter-in-law, Agnes Swaney of Gibbon Glade, Pa.; ten grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 20 great great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Loretta Hillard and husband, John Hillard of Uniontown, Pa.
The family will receive friends in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church St., Fairchance, Pa., today until 11 a.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Jay P. Hurley officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery, Brandonville, W.Va.
