Bomb threat forces evacuation at Wal-Mart
A bomb threat forced Wal-Mart officials to close the South Union Township retail store for nearly two hours Saturday. However, according to a spokeswoman from the alarm division of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., no explosive devices were found.
A dispatcher from the alarm division said that the management at Wal-Mart received the bomb threat around 10:30 a.m. and then immediately notified state police in Uniontown.
Upon police arrival, evacuation was deemed necessary.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. spokeswoman Sharon Webber said that store associates did “a great job of getting customers out of the store.”
Police dogs trained to hunt for bombs searched for exploding devices within the store’s interior.
Around 12:50 p.m., after the store remained closed for nearly two hours, the police, not finding a trace of explosives, gave store management the go-ahead to reopen, according to the alarm division spokeswoman.
“We take every threat very seriously,” said Webber. “Bomb threats are not funny. We are going to work with local law enforcement and, if possible, we will prosecute to the fullest extent.”
State police had issued no report on the incident as of press time.
