Uniontown man heads to court for assualt charges
A Uniontown man will stand trial in Fayette County Court on seven charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and terroristic threats for allegedly beating his girlfriend with a brick and assaulting two state troopers. During a recent preliminary hearing, North Union Township District Justice Deberah L. Kula ordered Elijah D. Crosby, 39, of 33 Forbes St., Apartment C, held for trial on the charges for the March 9 incident at his residence.
According to police, Crosby allegedly punched Leona Matheny, 31, of the same address, in the face and then pulled her from the residence by the hair, tearing her shirt in the process.
Police said that once outside, Crosby allegedly punched Matheny three or four more times in the face and head and allegedly picked up a brick and struck her on the back of the head, the face and on the right shoulder.
Troopers Matthew Hartman and Russell Freed said that when they arrived at the residence, Crosby remained combative and continued to hold Matheny around the neck with one arm and the brick above his head with the other arm.
Police said Crosby refused to drop the brick after they gave him several commands and continued to drag Matheny backward toward their residence.
When they tried to arrest Crosby, police said, he punched Hartman in the nose, continued to struggle and kicked Freed in the chest several times.
Crosby eventually was subdued and taken into custody.
