The California Student Nurses Association will hold a free blood sugar and blood pressure screening event from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Belle Vernon Wal-Mart Pharmacy. The event is sponsored by Wal-Mart, Mon Valley Hospital, the American Diabetes Association, Bayer, the American Heart Association and California University of Pennsylvania. Halupki sale set The California Area Historical Society is scheduling a Halupki sale in April. Pre-orders for the homemade cabbage rolls will be taken through April 4, with pick-up at the California United Methodist Church, Third and Liberty streets on either April 8 or 9. Pick-up dates will be scheduled when orders are placed. Prices are $5.50 a half dozen and $10 a dozen. Proceeds benefit the operating funds of the Society. The program, “Understanding Islam: A Christian Response,” will include the following faculty and students: Dr. Jay Aultman-Moore, assistant professor of philosophy; Dr. Esther Barkat, assistant professor of social sciences who earned a few of her degrees in Pakistan; Dr. Richard Waddel, assistant professor of political science and director of the honors program; and students Donna Buchanan and Tiffany Merovich.
