Today through next week ABUNDANT LIFE CHURCH, located at South Union Fire Hall near the corner of Lebanon Avenue and South Mount Vernon Avenue, Uniontown, announces guest vocalist Penny Whoolery will provide special music at Sunday’s 10:45 a.m. worship service. ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces Sunday’s casual 9 a.m. service will feature praise choruses and hymns led by the Rev. James Fogg, accompanied by Jim Hutchinson and Rev. Fogg’s message “Beginning Again.’ The traditional 11 a.m. service includes Rev. Fogg’s message and special music by the Asbury Chancel Choir, directed by Bill Dreucci, and organist Jim Hutchinson. The United Methodist special offering One Great Hour of Sharing will be collected. Loving Nursery Care is available for infants and children under 4. Children’s church is available or all children age 4 and older. The Asbury Chancel Choir will rehearse from 12:15 to 1 p.m. in the choir rehearsal room and is open to singers who want to join. The Wednesday Lenten luncheons, sponsored by the Uniontown Area Clergy Association, continue on April 2 at noon with the Rev. Don Immel of Faith Assembly of God Church as speaker. Asbury’s Lenten Mini-Recital Series precedes the luncheon from 11:15 to 11:50 a.m. in the sanctuary with pianist Bert Sesler. A freewill offering will be accepted at the recital.

Sesler is no stranger in tri-county music circles. His piano arrangements and stylings have been enjoyed by many at numerous church and social events. He has been a featured keyboard performer at the State Theatre Center for the Arts. Sesler’s love of God is evident in his musical interpretations. He served as organist at Asbury, where he and his wife, Valerie, are members, as well as Abundant Life Church of Uniontown. He recently returned to the music ministry team at Asbury and is a frequent worship music leader.

Terrific Thursday Plus continues April 3 at 5 p.m. with a craft class with Audrey White for the adults and the Bible Zone lesson and craft and choir for children and dinner served to all. The program concludes at 7 p.m. Items are still being collected for the youth yard sale on April 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

BREAD OF LIFE TABERNACLE, 15 Bouquet St., located near the corner of Connellsville and Bouquet streets, Uniontown, announces on Saturday the Gospel on Wheels ministry bus will go to Brierwood Acres in Uniontown. REVERE FREE METHODIST CHURCH, located three miles west of Uniontown on Route 21, will host a gospel music concert with Cornerstone of Lithopolis on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. Cornerstone is from Lithopolis, Ohio, and proclaims the Gospel through a ministry of music and their lives. ST. GEORGE SERBIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH IN CARMICHAELS announces Serb Wings, an Orthodox Christian choir from St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Steelton, Pa., will sing the responses at vespers at 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday Divine Liturgy. The choir will also put on a program in the church hall, following the Divine Liturgy. Serb Wings travels to Serbian Orthodox Churches to promote Monastery Marcha, a women’s monastery in Richfield, Ohio, where Mother Ana, the first American-born Serbian Orthodox nun, is abbess. Serb Wings sang at the vigil at the consecration of the monastery church in 2001 when his holiness Patriarch Pavle was present with Bishop Dr. Mitrophan to consecrate the church dedicated to the Archangel Gabriel. Serb Wings travels with the blessings of the Very Rev. Srbjoljub Jockovich, parish priest of St. Nicholas Church in Steelton and dean of the Washington deanery. Don Immel, pastor of Faith Assembly of God, will speak on “The Denials of Peter.’

UNIONTOWN CHURCH OF THE BRETHREN, 20 Robinson St., welcomes Lester and Esther Boleyn to the church on Sunday. They will speak at Sunday school from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. The Boleyns served as missionaries for the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria from 1968 to 1971, when Boleyn worked as churchman with several local congregations in leadership training and preparation of people for ordination. More recently, they served in Kenya/Sudan from 1988 to 1998 where Boleyn was coordinator/exegete for Sudanese translation teams and Mrs. Boleyn was the editor/keyboarder. The main focus of their work was to facilitate the translation of the Old Testament into the Nuer language of southern Sudan and then the version of the New Testament. The Boleyns returned to Sudan in January 2000 for the ceremony to launch the Nuer Bible. This event was described in the May 200 issue of Messenger magazine. The current potential readership for this Bible is about 800,000 people. The program will include current mission efforts of the church of the Brethren General Board, a slide presentation of the Bible translation work in the Sudan, various items for display as well as time for questions.
