IU1 holds elections at meeting

The Intermediate Unit 1 board of directors elected one new member and re-elected three other members to three-year terms. David Goldblum of the Connellsville School District (Fayette); Joanne L Brookover of Central Greene School District (Greene County); Dr. William R. Adams Jr., Washington School District and Anthony Marra, Chartiers-Houston (Washington County) were elected at the IU’s annual convention this week.

Goldblum will replace Ann Watson, who did not seek re-election.

Brookover, Adams and Marra presently hold a position on the IU 1board of directors and now will continue to sit on the board for another three-year term.

All the nominees ran without opposition.

The IU1 board of directors will reorganize in June and Goldblum will take his position in July.

Currently on the board of directors are Brookover, Adams, Marra, Watson, Nancy Herring (Uniontown Area), William Loar (Trinity), Francine Pavone (Brownsville Area), George Safin (California), William Vargo (Frazier) and Edward Yorke Jr. (Cannon-McMillan).

Five board members were also recognized and presented plaques for their years of service to their respective school districts.

Herring was recognized for 25 years of service in the Uniontown Area School District, and Twyla Haines, Central Greene; Vargo; Frazier; Angelo Giachetti, Laurel Highlands; and Susan Clay, Uniontown Area were recognized for 15 years of service:

Nineteen school districts within Fayette, Greene and Washington counties attended the IU1’s annual convention.

A total of 86 guests, not including IU staff, were in attendance, including 54 board members, 14 superintendents and 18 guests.
