Book sale planned Friends of the California Public Library will sponsor a spring book sale during regular business hours April 1-30.
Many clean paperback and hardback books, as well as a few collectible books, will be for sale, and residents are encouraged to donate their own books.

Meetings scheduled
State Rep. Peter J. Daley (D-California) invites residents of the 49th Legislative District to discuss their questions or concerns about state government during upcoming town meetings.
At 6:30 p.m. each Thursday for the next few weeks, Daley has scheduled town meetings at the following locations:
– Thursday, Roscoe Fire Hall, for residents of Roscoe, Allenport, Elco, Stockdale and Long Branch.
– April 10, Washington Township Fire Hall, for residents of Washington Township.
– April 24, Redstone Recreation Center, for residents of Redstone, Menallen and Brownsville townships.
– May 1, West Brownsville Fire Hall, for residents of West Brownsville.
Daley’s Fayette County office, at 113A Thornton Road on Route 166, Redstone Township, is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office can be reached toll-free at 800-467-9486.
Attendance requested
Elected officials will meet with the public Saturday at 9 a.m. in the California Borough Building to discuss issues such as community services, housing, transportation and recreation.
Acknowledging that the delivery of municipal services is becoming increasingly more complex due to a decreased tax base and an increased demand for services, officials are holding a second public meeting to learn what residents think can be done to improve existing conditions within the borough.
“Our goal is to enter into a partnership with residents to strengthen our ability to sustain economic viability and improve their quality of life,” said Art Harris, borough council president.
Program offered
The Center in the Woods, California, will offer a 40-hour mandatory personal-care home administrator training program from Monday, April 7, to Friday, April 11.
This program has been approved by the state Department of Public Welfare and meets the requirements of Act 185 for the mandated training of personal care home administrators.
The fee for the program is $400, and individual sessions cost $10 per classroom hour.
First aid/CPR certification will occur following Friday’s last session.
