John S. “Jack” Matzus
John S. “Jack” Matzus, age 67, of Hopwood, Pa., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 26, 2003.
He was born May 21, 1935 in Whitsett, Pa., son of John J. Matzus and Anna Lucilla Bambrey Matzus. He was a retired Welder from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and a Veteran of the United States Navy.
“Jack” was a life member of General George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 in Hopwood, American Legion Post 51, Uniontown, Pa., and Life Member of Hutchinson Gun Club.
He was also a member of The Circle Club in Uniontown.
“Jack” was Regional Vice President of the Pennsylvania AFSCME Retiree Chapter 13 and President of the AFSCME Sub Chapter 8404 Retiree.
A sister, Patricia Ann Check, brother, Michael William Matzus, and parents preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Margaret Sterbutzel Matzus; four sons: John Matzus and wife, Victoria Vukmanic Matzus, of Uniontown, Pa., Michael Matzus and Tina Vance of Uniontown, Pa., Mark Matzus and Renee Williamson of Hopwood, Pa., and Matthew Matzus and wife, Denise Pickerd Matzus of Hopwood, Pa.; five grandchildren: Britni Matzus, Larissa Matzus, Nicholas Matzus, Aaron Matzus, Brittany Vance; sisters: Catherine Petrovic and Marlene “Punkin” Matzus both of Uniontown, Pa.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends will be received in the SKIRPAN FUNERAL HOME, 680 Cherry Tree Lane, Uniontown, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. where a Prayer Service will be held Monday, March 31, at 9 a.m.
A Funeral Mass follows at 9:30 a.m., in St. Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, Mill Street, Uniontown, with Rev. Fr. Kenneth Zaccagnini, V.F., as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, where Military Honors will be accorded by Hopwood AMVETS Post 103.
Visitation was also held Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
