State trooper hurt in accident

By Jackie Beranek 1 min read

State police at Uniontown said trooper James Gregg, 37, underwent surgery at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh on Friday for injuries he sustained in a late Thursday night, high-speed chase and crash on Route 40, 11/2 miles west of Route 119. Trooper Brian R. Burden, community relations officer for state police at Uniontown and Belle Vernon, said Gregg is expected to make a full recovery, despite several severe fractures he suffered.

Burden said Gregg was flown to Mercy Hospital after the 11:11 p.m. crash.

Burden said the accident happened when Gregg lost control of his 2002 Ford Crown Victoria while pursuing another motorist, veered off the roadway, overturned and hit a tree.

Gregg was listed in stable condition Friday.

Volunteer fire companies from West Leisenring and South Union Township and EMS crews from Uniontown Firemen’s and American EMS assisted police at the scene.

State police did not indicate whom Gregg was pursuing, but Burden said that police did not catch the person.
