Jack M. Wood, 78, of Irwin, Pa., formerly of McClellandtown, Pa., passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2003 in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born on December 2, 1924 in Dawson, Pa., son of George M. Wood and Emma P. (Poole) Wood.

Mr. Wood was a retired businessman, past owner of the IGA Super Dollar Markets in Harrison City, West Hempfield and Mount Pleasant.

He graduated from the former German Township High School and served with the United States Navy in World War II in the European and Japanese Theaters.

His parents, his wife, Wilma Newman Wood, and a sister, Virginia Hartley, preceded him in death.

He is survived by these children: Diane Brant and her husband, Elmer, of Jeannette, Pa., George N. Wood and his wife, Colleen, of Mount Pleasant, Pa., and Sheree McDevitt and her husband, Patrick, of Youngwood, Pa.; eight grandchildren: Jackee Brant, Lori Brant, Jesse Brant, Stacy Wood, Ben Wood, Holly McDevitt, Kate McDevitt and Heather McDevitt; two sisters: Betty Badger of McClellandtown and Ruth Morris of Masontown, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in the H. DAVID MCELROY FUNERAL HOME, 803 Main Street, McClellandtown, Pa., today (Monday, March 31) until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with Pastor Rebecca Drover officiating.

Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown.

Visitation was also held Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
