Eugene “Gene” E. Koffler

Eugene “Gene” E. Koffler, 63, of Menallen Township, Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 28, 2003, at Uniontown Hospital.

He was born on March 12, 1940, in McKees Rocks, Pa., a son of the late Raymond P. and Mary M. (Spock) Koffler.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Cooley; and an uncle, Joseph Spock; a brother-in-law, Darrell P. Kortje; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred C. Kortje and Florence L. Kortje.

Gene proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He was the supervisor of the Ad Design Department of the Uniontown Newspapers Inc.

An avid sportsman, he loved the outdoors and shared many wonderful memories with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Gene was a patient, loving and wonderful husband, father and brother.

He was a member of Saint Mary’s (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, George C. Marshall AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood, and the Izaak Walton League, Uniontown Chapter.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jeanette M. (Kortje) Koffler; a son, Michael E. Koffler and wife, Anna of Epping, N.H.; a brother, Raymond J. Koffler and wife, Mary Ann of Uniontown, Pa.; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Mrs. Barbara Massman and husband, Frank of Iowa, Larry Kortje and wife, Shiela of Oregon, Carol Zautke and husband, Ken of Nebraska, Richard Kortje and wife, Vickie of Oregon, Ronald Kortje and wife, Beth of Nebraska, and Mrs. Laquita Kortje of Texas; a niece, Barbara Crofcheck and husband, Drew of Uniontown; a nephew, Raymond J. Koffler II and wife, Kathy of Cranberry, Pa.; several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Friends will be received in the STEPHEN R. HAKY FUNERAL HOME INC., A Dignity Memorial Provider, 603 North Gallatin Ave., Ext., Uniontown, this evening from 7 to 9 p.m., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday at a time to be announced. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Saint Mary’s (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church on Friday at 9:30 when Prayers of Transfer will be said, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m., in Saint Mary (Nativity) Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Micah E. Kozoil as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Macrina Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by AMVETS Post 103 of Hopwood. Memorial donations may be made to the Izaak Walton League, Uniontown Chapter or the American Heart Association.
