North Union Twp. Man arrested

Josh Allen Kaylor, 20, of 124 High St., Lemont Furnace, was arrested for allegedly attempting to break into a shed owned by Geraldine Cindric of Uniontown at 4:45 a.m. April 22, state police said. He was arraigned before District Justice Michael Rubish and committed to the Fayette County Prison in lieu of a $10,000 percentage bond.

Car stolen

A green 1999 Mazda 626 bearing Pennsylvania registration EZL-5693 and owned by Rebecca Bowden of Hopwood was stolen Tuesday between 5 and 6 p.m. from First Class Auto on Route 51, state police said.

ATV stolen

A red and black 2003 Yamaha Predator with front and rear cargo racks, owned by Timothy J. Groves, was stolen from his Morgantown Street garage between 10 p.m. Wednesday and 8:15 a.m. Thursday, state police said.

Woman arrested

Misty Wolverton, 28, of Lake Lynn Road, Lake Lynn, was arrested on a warrant from Carroll County, Ohio, on Bailey Avenue April 21, state police said. She was arraigned before District Justice Mark Blair and committed to the Fayette County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Deaths accidental

Washington County Coroner S. Timothy Warco has ruled the deaths of two Allenport residents in a fire Wednesday night accidental in nature.

According to Warco, Sara Shephard, 63, died of smoke inhalation and burns received in the fire, which might have been started by one of the woman’s cigarettes. Shephard, known to be a heavy smoker, was found dead in the first floor living room that she used as a bedroom, Warco said.

Her husband, Donald Shephard, 66, died from smoke inhalation. He was rescued from a second-floor bedroom by firefighters but was pronounced dead upon arrival at Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Fire broke out at their home at 1861 Main St., Allenport, around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday. The state police fire marshal was called in to investigate, although the initial investigation indicated nothing suspicious about the fire.

Items stolen

State police said various items valued at $300 were stolen from a vehicle owned by James Frazee of McClellandtown on April 27.

No one injured

State police said neither Morgan Lynn Hardy nor Nicole Cardinale, both of Charleroi, was injured in a traffic accident on a state road at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Citation filed

A harassment citation was filed against Howard Wingrove, 19, of Uniontown, who allegedly threatened to assault Brad Christopher Satanec, 20, of Uniontown at 10:10 p.m. Thursday in the Cherry Tree Plaza parking lot, along Route 21, state police said.

Burglary reported

State police said someone entered the unlocked home of Larry Newman of Grindstone between 5 p.m. Wednesday and 2:30 a.m. Thursday and stole a Sony PlayStation II, three games, two memory cards, a full-face off-road motorcycle helmet, goggles and Scott motorcycle gloves.
