Dennis re-certified
District Justice Wendy D. Dennis was again certified for service as a member of Pennsylvania’s Unified Judicial System after completing continuing legal education course work.
The weeklong instructional program is designed to ensure that district justices remain current in a variety of legal topics and management techniques required to adjudicate cases fairly and run a district justice office effectively. Included in this year’s curriculum are updates on civil and criminal law and the Motor Vehicle Code, an overview of consumer protection law and a presentation by the Alliance for the Mentally Ill of Pennsylvania.
Continuing education course work is required by statute of each of the more than 500 Pennsylvania district justices, with about 45 district justices attending one of the 14 such classes at some time during each year.
Triathlon scheduled
The second annual Turkeyfoot Trail Triathlon, featuring kayaking, biking and running, will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m.
Participants will gather at the RiverSport parking lot in Confluence and be transported to the Lower Humbert Covered Bridge for the kayak launch. Kayakers will paddle on Laurel Hill Creek and the Youghiogheny River to the Ramcat Trailhead, where they will pick up their bikes and ride the Great Allegheny Passage Trail to the Turkeyfoot Area High School in Harnedsville. Then, they will run the trail back to Confluence’s historic town square.
Participants will paddle 4 miles, bike 4 miles and fun 21/2 miles.
“This is meant to be a fun triathlon that anyone in reasonably good shape can do,” said Ray Silbaugh, president of the Confluence Tourism Association. “We welcome teams and individuals as well.”
Everyone will gather at the end of the event for a turkey barbecue in the town square, where prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.
The entry fee of $25 includes a T-shirt.
