Volunteer corps honored at special luncheon
BROWNSVILLE – The 35-member volunteer corps at Brownsville General Hospital (BGH) was honored recently during a special luncheon in observance of National Volunteer Week. Remarks of appreciation were offered by hospital officials, including Karen L. Dei Cas, interim chief executive officer; B.J. Wadhwani, M.D., vice chief of the medical staff and I. Prakorb, M.D., secretary of the board of directors.
Each volunteer received a special gift on behalf of the hospital’s Medical Staff in appreciation of their dedication and commitment to BGH.
On behalf of the board of directors and hospital administration, Dei Cas presented the volunteers with a commemorative plaque reading “Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us everyday at Brownsville General Hospital.”
“By tradition, a fine table represents everything you want to present in your home: hospitality, friendship and sharing the very best you have to offer,” Dei Cas said, commenting on the recognition luncheon. “In the world of health care, the hospital is our home and it is important to convey that message to those who enter our doors. They are more than patients and visitors – they are our guests. And it is through our volunteers at Brownsville General Hospital that we create a sense of welcome that extends into the community we serve. Their kindness and commitment demonstrates the warmth and caring that is part of everything we do.”
BGH volunteers recently donated wheelchairs, arthroscopic equipment and a pulmonary function machine with money raised through various fund-raising events.
The volunteer corps is planning a flea market for June 9-11 and a Strawberry Festival for June 23 at Brownsville General Hospital to raise additional funds to enhance patient care services.
