$6 million improvement plan discussed at meeting

By Steve Ferris 1 min read

Bob Junk of Fay-Penn Economic Development Council presented information on a proposed capital improvement project for downtown Uniontown at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. He said the $6 million plan involves acquiring and renovating vacant buildings, allowing parking on one side of Main Street, building a two or three level parking garage on Penn Street, operating a tourist train, further development of the State Theatre for the Arts, offering rent incentives for restaurants and specialty businesses and shops and improving building exteriors.

He said the city and county would contribute $1.5 million each as a match to $3 million from the state, but there is no commitment from the Fayette County Commissioners.

Junk said he could leverage another $2 million in private or federal funds.

He said existing Community Development Block Grant projects would make up $844,929 of the city’s share.
