Eugene “Dick” Labin
Eugene “Dick” Labin, 84, of Morgantown, West Virginia, and a resident until 1980 of Point Marion, Pa., died Friday, May 9, 2003 in The Madison House, Morgantown. Born September 12, 1918 in Clarksville, Pa., he was a son of Richard Labin and Ruby Moore Labin.
He had played football while attending St. Francis High School in Morgantown and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II who served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre of Operations and was awarded three Bronze Stars.
A Coal Miner retired from Shannopin Mine in Bobtown, Pa., he was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 6159 and V. F. W. Post 747 in Point Marion.
A granddaughter, Megan Patterson, his twin sister, Jean White, brother, Richard Labin Jr., and parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Florence McCort Labin; six daughters and their spouses: Beverly Patterson of Centerville, Virginia, Mary Lou Nelson of Fairchance, Pa., Marlene Labin and Brenda and Rocky Gall of Morgantown, West Virginia, Dianna and Don Williams of Uniontown, Pa., Carol Lea and Jerry Cottrell of Point Marion; 12 grandchildren: Heather Nelson Johnson, Alicia Patterson, Eric Johnson, Jeremy and Ryan Cottrell, Kara, Taylor and Dawn Williams, Zachary and Tyler Labin, Brae and Karl Gall; sisters: Ruth Collins of Akron, Ohio, and Grace Stoner of Louisville, Kentucky; and brothers: Rogers Labin of Largo, Florida, and Hubert Labin of Akron, Ohio.
Friends will be received in the RICHARD R. HEROD FUNERAL HOME, 501 Morgantown Street, Point Marion, Pa., on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, May 13, until 11 a.m., the hour of Service with the Rev. Scott Teets officiating.
Interment follows in Evergreen Memorial Park, Point Marion, where Military Honors will be accorded by Point Marion Veterans posts.
