Peter Allen Galley

Peter Allen Galley, 55, a resident of Washington, D.C., and formerly of Perryopolis, Pa., passed away Saturday, May 3, 2003 in Washington Hospital Center. He was born April 9, 1948 son of Mrs. Reba Holler Galley and the late Allen Galley.

Peter graduated from Mary Fuller Frazier High School in Perryopolis, Pa., and The University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pa.

During his Library career he was instrumental in the establishment of AFSCME Local 2477. He served as the Local’s President for many years and also “Served With Distinction” as President of the District’s Council 23, which covered all of the AFSCME unions.

He held the position of Administrative Officer in Constituent Services until he became a Labor Relations Specialist in the Labor Relations Office, a position he held until his recent retirement.

After having worked 34 years in the Library of Congress, he retired April 9, 2003.

Peter is survived, in addition to his Mother, by sisters: Peggy Galley, Wilkinsburg, Pa., and Lorri Galley Mersky and husband Chuck Mersky, Dallas, Texas; brothers: James Galley, San Diego, California, and Kirk Galley and wife Aileen, State College, Pa.; nieces and nephews: Dara Mersky, Matthew Mersky, Max Galley and Emma Galley.

A Graveside Service will be conducted in June at Mount Washington Cemetery by Reverend Brock Beveridge of the Perryopolis United Methodist Church.
