The education council of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce honored Casey Checton from Uniontown, a junior at Uniontown Area High School, as student of the month for April. The daughter of Clarence and Ellen Checton, she is undecided about which post-secondary school she wants to attend. Her major will be either athletic training or physical therapy. Checton’s career goal is to become a physical therapist.
This junior has gained work experience as a waitress at Becker’s Shadyside Restaurant. She show community involvement coaching 8th grade girls at the YMCA and volunteering at the School for the Blind.
Checton is a member of various clubs including the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Silk Squad. She is an active member of the basketball, track and volleyball teams. She has earned several honors and awards and was chosen to run in the Olympic Torch relay back in December 2001.
Elected by their schools based on academic achievement, extra curricular activities, and citizenship, students of the month are given the opportunity for work-site learning experiences with chamber-member businesses.
