ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, corner of Beeson Avenue and Dunbar Street in Uniontown, announces Sunday’s 9 a.m. casual worship service will feature praise choruses and hymns led by the Rev. CITY CHAPEL OF UNIONTOWN, 254 E. Main St., reports that Douglas Wright has announced his calling to preach the Gospel and, with the support of his pastor, the Rev. Leonard Kirby, will preach his first public sermon on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the church. Wright currently holds the offices of deacon and assistant choir director.

ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH has announced the 2003 Eagle of the Cross winners, who include three district youths. They are Christina Kittredge and Danielle Kittredge of St. Hugh Roman Catholic Church in Carmichaels, part of the Greene County Deanery, and Jason Antanovich of Ave Maria Parish, Bentleyville/Ellsworth, who is from Serra Catholic High School. Sponsored by the National Foundation for Catholic Youth Ministry, based in Washington, D.C., the Eagle of the Cross Award is given annually to high school juniors or seniors from each of the diocese’s 16 deaneries and 11 Catholic high schools who have shown exemplary leadership skills, service, spirituality and involvement in their youth ministry programs, parishes and/or schools. Their pastors, youth ministers, catechetical administrators and principals nominated the winners.

ROSCOE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 300 Main St., on Sunday at 11 a.m. worship will celebrate its founding 106 years ago. The service will include music honoring the church’s history and a litany honoring its current mission and volunteers.

The church, located at the corner of Main and Underwood streets, with a current membership of 147, was begun in 1897. Some of the same founding family names are still on the church’s membership roster generations later in 2003. The Rev. Dr. John Rankin’s Founder’s Day sermon is “Go Deeper.’ The chancel choir directed by Mary Catherine Schmidt, will sing. Betty Ermlick is church organist.

This Wednesday at 7 p.m., a four-week video/discussion concludes. The discussion is built around the theme “Carpe Diem,’ featuring Dr. Tony Campolo on video followed by discussion led by Dr. Rankin.

GEORGE MARONITE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 6 Lebanon Terrace, Uniontown, announces the Ladies Guild is conducting its 53rd annual memorial Mass and services, honoring all deceased ladies of the guild, on Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. with reciting of the rosary, followed by the memorial Mass at 8:30 a.m. and services beginning in the church social hall, immediately following the liturgy. UNITED CHRISTIAN CHURCH (DISCIPLES OF CHRIST) IN CALIFORNIA announces the Rev. Norman C. Hunt (who also was pastor at Central Christian Church in Uniontown from 1972 to 1979) will be honored as minister emeritus during the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, May 25. The Rev. W. Darwin Collins, regional minister, will participate in the service along with the Rev. Wesley Ward. The date marks Rev. Hunt’s 45th year in the ministry. He has served as minister at the church from 1965 to 1972 and from 1979 until his retirement in 2000. A reception will follow.

ALBERT GALLATIN AREA HIGH SCHOOL BACCALAUREATE SERVICE will be held Tuesday, May 27, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Smithfield at 7 p.m. The Rev. Darrel Edgar will bring the challenge to the graduates from the word of God.

The senior class has received an invitation to this religious service being held in their honor. There will also be special music and worship will be provided by the Mount Moriah Praise Team.

CHRISTIAN DAY CAMP will be held at Mon View Park for Albert Gallatin, Carmichaels and Southeastern Greene school districts June 16-20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Day camp is for elementary students entering second through fifth grades and teens sixth through ninth grades.

Then, turns onto Fairmont Road, travels to Route 381, crosses onto Baptist Church Road.

Bus travels past I.C.B.C. to Shroyer Corner, turning around at the end at 8:45 a.m. Next bus goes left onto Baptist Church Road (past Mays’ and Broadwaters’ and travels Stewarton Road to Mill Run Post Office at 8:55 a.m. Bus turns right onto Route 381 and arrives at church at 9 a.m.

Riders should be outside their homes five minutes early.
