Connellsville announces summer recreation program
CONNELLSVILLE – The city will again offer a variety of indoor and outdoor activities for school-aged children during its summer recreational program slated to get under way next month. “We had a very good turnout last year and we’re hoping to entice a few more to take part this year,” said Councilwoman Chris Wagner, who oversees the city public parks and buildings.
All programs will be held Monday through Friday from June 16 through July 25 with the exception of July 4 when the activities will be suspended due to the observance of the holiday.
Swimming instruction will be conducted at the Connellsville Senior High School from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with students being scheduled according to age and ability.
Registration fees for the Connellsville Area School District residents are $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child. Non-resident fees are $25 for the first child and $20 for additional children.
Ashley Hawk will serve as swimming coordinator with Courtney Wagner, Bree Williams, Kristina Brooks, Beth Conlon and Jonathan Keefer as assistants.
Tennis instruction will be given at the Connellsville Senior High School and Mountz Creek Park for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. The program is open to students in grades 3 through 12.
Instructors will contact students with schedules prior to the start of the program.
Cost is $12 for Connellsville area students and $15 for those residing outside the school district.
Don Campbell is coordinator for the program with Ryan Hornick, Aimee Rankin and Amy Browell serving as assistants.
The basketball program will be open to students in grades 4 through 9 and will be held at Cameron Court adjacent to the Carnegie Library, from 8 a.m. until noon.
Registration is $12 for Connellsville students and $15 for those not living within the boundaries of the school district.
Gary Nolan will serve as program coordinator with Shannon Kovack and Shane Kurtz as assistants.
Enrollment forms and registration fees will be taken at the Connellsville Municipal Building from 9 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., beginning June 9 and continuing through June 13.
The city will also provide activities at five neighborhood playgrounds during the six-week summer program.
Each site will be supervised from 3 to 7 p.m., with games, crafts, basketball, volleyball and other activities for those who attend.
Brad Miner will serve as general supervisor of the playground program with Tiffany Hutchinson, Erica Husband, Bree Williams, Kristina Brooks and Stacy Kerns as instructors.
The program will be held at Pinnacle, South Side, Woodruff, Second Ward and 12th Street parks.
There is no charge to take part in the playground activities.
