John E. Soltis
John E. Soltis, 53, of Waynesburg R. D. 1, Pa., and formerly of Carmichaels and Connellsville, Pa., died at 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg, Pa.
He was born May 5, 1950 in Connellsville, Pa., son of John A. Soltis and Marian Yoswick Soltis of West Leisenring, Pa.
John was Catholic.
He was a 1968 graduate of Connellsville High School.
Mr. Soltis worked at the former Consolidated Coal Company’s Dilworth Mine in Greene County for 28 years. Previous to that, he worked at United States Steel Corporation’s Robena Mine.
Mr. Soltis was a member of The Sons of Cumberland American Legion Post 400 and a social member of V. F. W. Post 3491 both in Carmichaels.
He was a former member of Moose Lodge No. 461, Waynesburg.
He enjoyed attending Carmichaels Area High School football games, conversing online with his family and friends, and following and listening to the Povertyneck Hillbillies and various polka bands.
His wife, Valerie E. Smitley Soltis, whom he married on July 8, 1999, survives.
Also surviving are a son, Brian Soltis of Mount Pleasant, Pa.; a daughter, Shannon Soltis of Brownsville, Pa.; two stepdaughters: Cyndee Bedilion of Canonsburg, Pa., and Debbie Jenkins and her husband, John, of Burgettstown, Pa.; four grandchildren: Felicia Virgili, Daylon Rivera, Aliyah Soltis and Corrine Soltis; two brothers: Michael J. Soltis and his wife, Bonnie, of Connellsville, Pa., and Stephen Soltis and his wife, Tracy, of Uniontown, Pa.; three sisters: Suzanne Soltis Staszel and her husband, Tom Staszel of Dunbar, Pa., Joanne Soltis Kimmel and her husband, Robert Kimmel, of Normalville, Pa., and Barbara Soltis Hiltabidel and her husband, Arnold, of Medina, Ohio; also several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received in the Yoskovich Funeral Home, Martin J. Yoskovich, Funeral Director, 300 South Vine Street, Route 88, Carmichaels, Pa., today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a Blessing Service will be held Monday, May 26, at 10:45 a.m. Rev. Fr. John Bauer will officiate.
Interment will follow in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Pa.
Visitation was also held Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
